I agree 12-frames-at-once is not the best method. Hopefully the IQ is not worse (or so I heard) compares to on-glass scanning. I'll go ahead and order these holder and cover. My overview is that I prefer personal control over the thumbnail automatic scan. Post editing if not giving an entirely satisfactory result. The programme does not accomodate orientation, but with practice I find that adjusting the settings on a portrait orientated landscape image is workable. But in either case I select each frame individually, even using the zoom preview for accurate cropping out of the surround. I use the film holder for 35mm but prefer to place 120 strips on the glass with a home made glass holder on top. The scanner has to accomodate the black surrounding section of film and can influence the exposure/contrast of the actual image area. In the meantime, scanning a whole strip at once is not necessarily the best method. Otherwise the scanner will again not know what you're doing. When you get the holders, remember to not block the holes when you slide in the negatives. Without the holder holes, it has no idea what you're doing, hence you had to select the framing. That tells the scanner that the holder is inserted and which way it is inserted so it knows it's going to scan either 4 slides or 16 negatives. Notice that the three holes are aligned differently at each end. If you look at the picture of the holder in the first link, you will see three tiny holes at each end. Oh, you also will have to buy the 35mm film cover for another $1.99.Ĭ/products/scanners/perfection-v500-photo/. There's also a section in the holder to insert 35mm slides. You still can adjust each shot as to flipping them, changing the exposure, etc.

Since you're laying them in no particular place on the glass, it wants you to frame each shot. The software is looking for the film in a particular area defined by the holders. When 'Thumbnail' unticked, it works fine.īut I'd think if I were able to use thumbnail, I would be when preview, have separated frames, which is helpful rather than now I always have one strip, and I need to crop each frame manually to adjust things and then scan. It says something like 'Document not found'. Here are some things that bug me - I'm not sure if they're supposed to be like that or not. But was really happy when I got my V500 from a friend, without the stock film holders -> I scan directly on the glass, with a piece of anti newton glass on top.
